As mentioned above it's a no-nonsense mechanical keyboard which is satisfying to use and easy to set up. If you can afford to spend a bit extra and want something well-made, consider the Leopold FC750R PD. It has a pretty long-lived battery too, so you shouldn't have to worry much about running out of juice in the middle of a paper. It's got a built-in wrist rest and works with just about any laptop or PC with a USB port to plug its wireless receiver into. If you're looking for something affordable, the Logitech K350 is a great choice. Even if your student is taking a laptop to school instead of a full PC, having an external keyboard set up at home can make typing up homework more much more comfortable (and easier on their back) than if they were hunched over the laptop's built-in keyboard.
